Hello Everyone,
I,my husband and two young children currently live in Vienna, Austria but are returning to England this summer for good. My husband left England in 1992 and I left to be with him in 1996. We've lived and traveled all over the world teaching English to adults and children. We lived in New Zealand before Austria and had planned to have our family there but sadly New Zealand wasn't for us, or at that particular time anyway. So we moved to Vienna when I was six months pregnant, which was far from ideal ! That was seven and a half years ago and we now have a seven year old son and a two year old daughter who are both adorable ! The type of childhood and life style including primary education that I enjoyed as a child, is what I've always hoped to give my children or as close to it as one can, seeing that things have certainly changed since those days! Plus the need to be back home nearer to our aging parents, old friends and to our cultural roots is stronger than ever. We miss the great things that English rural life in particular can offer and we'd love to be part of a safe and supportive community ideally in a rural or coastal village. Having only recently decided to return 'Home' with only four months to go, time is running out fast. I need to find the ideal location for us to live in which isn't too far from work opportunities for my husband, who'll continue to teach English as a foreign language and very importantly that has a lovely state primary school for our son. So it's a very daunting let alone complicated task. Which is why I've come across your wonderful website that's been extremely useful. I'm hoping having become a member today that some of you might be able to advise us on the following areas? We're looking at Durham and in particular it's borders to Northumberland, North and East Yorkshire and possibly Lincolnshire. We've never lived in these regions but having done some research, I believe and hope they can offer us a good quality of life as well as a very good state education for our children. Plus the cost of living in real terms is lower up north and not having any property behind us or any great income to look forward to, we need to find an affordable place to live too ! Have any of you got any recommendations ? We'll be very grateful if you have. P.s before living abroad and motherhood I'd had a successful but stressful sales career in England. Then I left in 1996 to be with boyfriend and now husband and worked/trained as a Kindergarden teacher in Hong Kong. My hobbies before motherhood (!) used to be horse riding, sports, traveling, reading, driving, sightseeing and socialising. Now they've been reduced to sleeping and socialising if I'm lucky !!!
