Slipper Launch, moored near Marsh Mill, Henley-on-Thames A fine example of a classic Thames Slipper Launch, complete with the mandatory Lloyd Loom chairs. Gatehouse of Friar Park, Henley-on-Thames Friar Park was the home of the ex-Beatle George Harrison from 1970 until his death in 2001. Friar Park house itself is a 120-room Gothic mansion and is strictly private with the grounds protected by razor-wire, allegedly causing injuries to local cats, including that of thespian neighbour Rodney Bewes. Alms Houses in the Churchyard of St. Mary the Virgin, Henley-on-Thames Stepping away from Hart Street you enter the peaceful Churchyard of St. Mary's with its 16th Century almshouses. In the foreground is a small memorial tablet to the singer Dusty Springfield, who lived at Harpsden, near Henley, in her final years. Houses off Mill Lane, Henley-on-Thames Near the site of Marsh Mill, this fine white stucco building (Pool House) is a Grade II listed building. I believe at one time the entertainer Danny La Rue owned this house (along with many other fine houses) though I can find no definite confirmation of this information. The Catherine Wheel, Hart Street, Henley-on-Thames The Catherine Wheel on Hart Street is one of the many Pubs / Restaurants in Henley. Most of the buildings in Henley are Georgian or older. The view here must have changed little for several centuries and is spoiled only by the ever present line of parked cars on this pretty street. Hart Street and St. Mary-the-Virgin Church, Henley-on-Thames The tower of the Parish Church of St Mary-the-Virgin, Henley, is an imposing landmark which can be seen for miles around. St Mary's is at the east end of Hart Street, which is interesting in itself for its Restaurants, Pubs, Boutiques, Booksellers and Antique Shops. The Horse Bridge, Marsh Lock, Henley-on-Thames Unusually, the Lock is on the opposite side of the river from the towpath, so this long wooden bridge had to be built to allow the horses to pull the barges through the Lock.
