Lynmouth lifeboat rescue This imformation sign describing the 1899 famous LOUISA lifeboat rescue of the Forrest Hall sailing ship, was erected on a garden wall of The Captain's House B&B, 1 Tors Road, Lynmouth on 9th October 2010. Lynmouth's Captain Jack Crocombe The famous Captain Jack Crocombe who was the skipper of the LOUISA lifeboat crew of 1899 who hauled the lifeboat overland for 13 miles from Lynmouth to Porlock Weir and rescued the Forrest Hall ship. East Lyn River in Lynmouth In 1952 due to heavy rainstorms high up in Exmoor, a huge deluge of water cascaded down both the East and West Lyn rivers and merged to virtually destroy old Lynmouth. Several lives were lost and the town had to be rebuilt and the river realigned with retaining walls. A visit to the local flood museum is well worth a visit.
