Cannon outside the Town Hall A Rotherham made cannon sitting outside the Town Hall. A 9 pounder weighing 1.25 tons. If you look carefully W&Co or Walker & Company can be seen on the trunnion picked out in red. Home Guard at the Stag Inn. I am among other things, connected with Rotherhams past researching the Home Guard. This is a picture taken at the Stag Inn which was the base of B company. The sign was painted in 1940 and the three miscreants, home guard guys are Pike on the left, Corporal Jones in the middle and Captain Mainwaring on the right. Bailey Bridge over the River Don. Donald Bailey the designer of the 'Bailey Bridge' used throughout Europe in World War II was born in Rotherham. This Bailey bridge was erected in 1947 over the river Don in Rotherham, to allow local steel workers to cross the river.
