Tom Gill 7 Almost at the top of Tom Gill now with only a hundred yards or so to go before the vista of Tarn Hows bursts into view This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Tom Gill 6 A wider view of the falls at Tom Gill. Have done this in summer with the sun fully out and it is just as nice but brighter summer colours This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Tom Gill 5 Head on to The lower falls, slight resemblance to Swallow Falls at Betws-y-Coed in Snowdonia, but not as big.....but nicer more accessible, not that I have anything against Snowdonia! This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Tom Gill 4 Another, closer view of the waterfall This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Tom Gill 3....Icicles Icicles formed on overhanging shrubs simply from the spray off the falls. Being in relative shade and cold I expect they continued to grow during the day and night This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Tom Gill 2 A wider view of the lower falls. If you look closely at the shrub towards the top right you can see icicles hanging from the branches, these were 4-6 inches in length This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Tom Gill 1 Tom Gill lower falls on the way up to Tarn Hows from the car park on the A593 Coniston to Ambleside road. A healthy trek in summer, never mind December when the ground was frozen solid and the shrubs had icicles hanging off them! This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Tarn Hows 3 Frost covered grass and sun drenched trees......that was the order of the day This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Tarn Hows 2 We took the anti-clockwise route round the tarn as we felt this suited the light better. Such is the man made tarn that myriad photo opportunities revealed themselves almost every 5 or 10 paces. What should have been a 4-5 hour walk turned into a 3 hour stroll round Tarn Hows, which is normally done in well under an hour! This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Tarn Hows 1 The first view you get of Tarn Hows having climbed up Tom Gill rather than park in the upper car parks. This time it was frozen over from bank to bank. Even at the edges the ice was getting on to half an inch thick! This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
