The railway bridge over the River Orchy In 2003 the Railway Authorities banned use of the level crossing for pedestrian access to the Castle. A crossing previously used without incident for many decades. Ultimately a most helpful landowner suggested gaining access by walking beneath the rail bridge over the River Orchy some 200 yards NW of the car park. The Tower House The three-storey Tower House is the earliest part of Kilchurn Castle. It was built by Sir Colin Campbell in the middle years of the 15th century. The stone pile on the left is the remains of the south-west turret which has fallen to the ground and lies upside down. Kilchurn Castle In the 15th century Sir Colin Campbell of Glenorchy built a keep on the site of an earlier MacGregor stronghold. John Campbell, the Ist Earl of Breadalbane extended the castle in 1693 and it was used as a government barracks during the 1745 Jacobite Rising.
