Well, all day long news...we made it in the national news tonight, knew we would...the victim #1...is an freshman athlete..Emillo Hoffman...killed in the locker room of the gym..how the teacher got braised on the hip they haven't said...other then he's the one went to the office and called down an "Lockdown"... the shooter we have to find out about as several stories were given about how he died also...and we don' t know his name, he was killed in the Gym's bathroom.  They closed the school today...they were suppose to have their last day tomarrow...but they closed them all down in the district today...they have one school they go to retreive backpacks if they had them, and get escorted today an tomarrow to pick up cars in the school parking lot...they get sent to the college for stress and mental management if needed....but things are at the school closed down for investigation/police testing. See ya next year?.... Lots of parents and kids hugging and crying today. Yes, we all agree, this has got to stop. So I go for now.

Sorry to be reading this Shirley. American gun laws make it so easy for them, whereas here 'the public' in the UK all had our guns confiscated, gun club members also.

As a pest control officer I owned a humane killer, pistols, rifles, shotguns and air rifles (which incidentally are just as dangerous in the wrong hands) used them responsibly during the course of my profession, but of course there is no telling when the 'sensible' guy/gal goes wrong, so the bottom line is we all paid the price.

I kept my rifles and shotguns for a while longer, but as I got older I preferred not to use them and got rid of them all. The point being I think you need legislation. You are able to defend yourself just as easily with words and sanctions, as Russia is now experiencing whereas years ago war was the only answer.

Things have to change, but it will take a brave person in the USA to sign the papers!

After all that...Hi to all POEsters, enjoy the sun, but don't forget the suntan lotion.

The tale of the frozen lamb goes like this.

One Friday afternoon in 1978 I was working in Brighouse town centre, when the manager of the supermarket came running out to tell me that he'd seen a man put two joints of beef under his coat in the store, could I come and watch him to see if he left without paying. I might add that the manager was around 6ft 4inches tall and built like a house side.
When I got inside the store I realised that the potential theif was of the same proportions.
As soon as the chap saw me he made a bolt for freedom. Thinking on my feet how to stop him the first thing that came to mind was a frozen leg of lamb in the freezer next to where I was standing, I grabbed it and hurled it across the store, it caught him smack at the back of his left knee, the result was he ended up in a heap on the floor. A couple of local lads who I knew from previous dealings went and sat on him until some help arrived and he got arrested. Not one single member of staff from the store offered any assistance whatsoever.
So in a nutshell that's it, I was 19 at the time and suddenly I was famous Smile

I have a few more tales too, but sadly some of them are too long. Some I think I may still be bound by the Official Secrets Act which I came across my signed copy of the other day from 1975.

That's sad news about the fox cub John, hope the others are going to be OK.

Well, Ruth...one day at the retail store I worked at... they called out the security code for assistence at one of the entryways...which meant you dropped everything and ran to the location to assist...so there I was going there and every other clerk also..and I said..what's going on?, when we rounded the corner we saw two huge guys slugging it out on the floor fighting...needless to say...we stood back and let the fellas that came to the scene drag them apart.  They were doing everything in this fight, including pulling hair and biting each other..kicking, punching..etc. They were not little guys either...huge in size up and around.

We are questioning what happened yesterday...cops change the story on whatever has happened so far.  They say the shooter now killed himself..not as reported earlier that they shot him in the back in the bathroom. But at any rate..he's dead, whomever he is. WE are told we have to wait for their investigation and then they will tell us what happened. Could it have been "staged" is the question now. They decided this morning to post police in all the schools...today is thier last day for the summer...but they've had police at every school for an long time now.

Ron...I can remember when school use ot be let out in the fall so the kids and their parents could go "deer hunting"....I can rember at age 10 kids being crack shots...they knew how to handle guns,,,,they knew they were for killing....and they never thought of using them on an person. They were in most houses an person went to and unloaded and used fo rdecoration on the wall. The difference between then and today is the electronics games I think. Yet if you watched any "Highway Patrol" ...even back then, I'm amazed at the police brutality in it.  In one case the head honco you see arriving iin his car, comes out, unprovoked...looks at the villian...and without an word doubles him up in an belly punch...says...Haul him off boys! Talk about police brutailty. But despite even that..there were few killings. So they outlaw guns...well, there's standing man, an fictional character that has so far caused an 10 year olds death and and a 13 year old to attack her mother..both were done with an knife like standing man says to use. In the last couple of weeks...."Standing man" has been resposible for several murders. So it goes...some people are now asking if they were at this age almost hipnotized/merserized to the instructions that "standing man" suggests or gives out in watching him.  Question...could they be kids that have been placed on "Ritlin"..or other such mind altering  drugs? ...to where their world is as much fantasy... as it is real? In short they aren' t living life.... but through "electronic games" and fictional bad guys. I have known many an teacher that likewise seems to have to have an person in thier classroom that they deem maker...etc also..they seem to need to persecute this person into thier perfection for some reason...or they just don't want to be bothered with them....deep down wish they'd leave. Sandy Hook mother was gun ho and an arsenel to herself  in weapons before the shooting.  She should of stopped teaching if she thought she needed all this protection... she literally pushed violence onto her son. It makes me wonder how she taught her classes also. But anyway, we await and listen to what they tell us happened. We still do not know if this was an one on one criime... or an beginiing to an targeted planned mass killing... that went astray. ..or why..or whom was the shooter. But we know now, as one other person has already said...we will be told what happened and that will be that...and in someways..it's always like that..but for the average person when one's security is breached...it leaves one scared...and insecure.

Wordage should be deemed an trouble-maker to the classroom...so they have to naturally show their authority as an teacher...in some way.

I would call this an type of bullying also... by bigger peers in one' s life.

In this case they vie to hold thier authority figure image...and they must see the person inadequate in some manner. But anyway, one of these days it really ought to stop.  School needs to be for learning, not power controlling games.
