Mentmore Towers almost in ruins

The Natural Law people sold Mentmore Towers to an Egyptian billionnare who had grand plans to turn it into a mega star exclusive hotel charging £4,000 a night.   Sadly nothing came of it and the Towers are up for sale again.  It will probably cost more than the purchase price to put right the dilapidations to this once grand house.

It is sad that it is becoming impossible for all the grand old houses to be maintained.  I do hope that, despite the economy, efforts will be made to preserve as many as possible.

Our taxpayers will not be asked to fund the refurbishment of Mentmore Towers which is now a 'building at risk'.  Owners can be made to carry out repairs but that is not much use when the owner has no funds! All we can hope for is a knight in shining armour with a huge bank balance to ride to the rescue!
