About Lelant

The estuary on which the pretty holiday resort of Lelant stands is a paradise for bird watchers, it is also an old village with a long maritime history. Lelant prospered as a port until gale driven sands chocked up the Hayle estuary during the 15th century.

The village church survives from this same period, this can be found standing towards the edge of the dunes. The church is dedicated to St.Uny and is notable for the four Celtic crosses in the graveyard.

At the centre of the village there is a pleasant village shop and three welcoming pubs serving hearty home cooked food, including freshly caught seafood and fish.

There is a beautiful sandy beach for bathers, and walkers can enjoy picturesque coastal paths, follow the Hayle estuary, or take any one of the pretty lanes leading to a hinterland of picturesque Cornish villages.

Things to do include; swimming, sunbathing, walking, pony trekking, sailing and deep sea fishing. For anyone wishing to stray further afield there is the Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, The Minnack Theatre, Flambards and Land's End.

Lelant as much as any part of Cornwall is scenically beautiful, the whole region abounds with ancient folklore, myths and legends - it is a joy to explore.
