I am sure it has listed John, Mary, son Thomas and g/daughter Mary Hannah. 2/ Maybe Paul, that Maria was listed as a Forrest and travelling with her parents made the family fare cheeper ?? Maria & Thomas were definately married. 3/ Now Mary Hannah Wilkinson... This may explain the passenger list for their return to the UK only has John,Mary & Thomas (ex Brisbane on the "Otway" arriving London 18/7/1914....Mary was not there..because she never left. Poor Mary Hannah died 8/9/1915, age 19. thanks Paul. |

I have the impression the family decided to emmigrate and bought their tickets. Then, the marrige took place so Thomas C goes off to get his ticket too, and makes the passenger list out-dated when they all board in London. I have the passenger list in front of me which on this occasion, seems to be more useful than a transcription which normally suffices. It might yet be indicating a bit of a story about Mary Hannah not quite explained yet. Still trying to find any property/census records about Ivy Cottage. I was so upset with what I had received in a reply from a forum which I thought was POE. In haste and anger I replied to the wrong email/moderator who got the wrong end of the stick, for which I am sorry. Did you get my return email (with email from the other site) ? Yes this site is fantastic.....Paul has been great....I will keep on. Thanks Ron, Max |

We don't permit obscene pictures and/or the sort of nonsense that the other website and your email referred to. POE really is a family friendly website and forum, so welcome to the best on the net bar none! |

And Mary Hannah who seems to have been brought up a lot with her Grandparents as you say and indeed, is buried with them. Why? You must have asked youself many questions and will answers ever come to light? You asked about Ivy Cottage originally; I'm sure the people who lived there or visited would be also interesting too. And then there's Albert; an interesting character indeed. Edited by: Paul Hilton at:9th June 2011 20:27 |

He was a Private with the 20th Battalion; Northumberland Fusiliers; service number 20/488. He doesn't seem to appear in the Commonwealth War Graves Commision's records of casualties/ cemeteries. She had a younger sister, Edith b. 1899 Tow Law, Durham and another sister Annie Maria b.1902 at Tow Law. After their mother Hannah died, Frank Wilkinson then married Jane Waugh in 1908 and by 1911 were living in Gateshead with more children, and Frank and his son John Thomas were working in the mines. Frank Wilkinson possibly died Durham, 1950 aged 77. Edited by: Paul Hilton at:9th June 2011 22:31 |

Mary Hannah's mother Hannah Forrest (my g/grandaunt) died at Tyne & Wear 1908. The 1901 census has Mary H. aged 4, living with John & Mary and her step brother Albert. So you could say that she was their daughter. I cant explain why she didnt show in the 1911 census, maybe visiting somewhere. Old Frank didnt mess about, as soon as his first wife Hannah dies he marries again. I have had a reply in Roots Chat regarding Ivy Cottage. Some wonderful photos of Castleside and of Ivy Cottage. Would love to visit there one day. |
