About Painswick Rococo Gardens

Painswick is a beautiful Cotswold village of mellow golden stone. It is renowned not simply for its Cotswold beauty, but also for its fine Rococo Gardens whose sheer perfection lies in its flamboyant English-Rococo style of the early 18th century.

The garden we see today is a restored version of the original garden which lay derelict for decades before being rescued in the early 1970's when its historic value was uncovered and deservedly recognised. What we now wander amongst is a masterly triumph of dedication to preserve the gardens for the benefit of future generations.

A walk around the garden offers tremendous vista's of the rolling Cotswold countryside, as well as magical garden buildings, a wealth of flowers, shrubs, trees, even a smartly clipped maze. The buildings include the intriguing Red House, the intricate Exedra, the charming Eagle House and The Gothic Alcove. These are all cleverly dispersed to heighten the scenic beauty of the garden where there is also much use of garden statutory.

The kitchen garden is richly planted with seasonal vegetables, salad crops including unusual lettuce, superbly flavoured English tomatoes, and herbs. Much of the produce grown is served in the garden restaurant.

There are several special events held here, some centre on the garden and its produce, others include a course on the art of Calligraphy, and in the summer there will be an outdoor production of Shakespeare's "Two Gentlemen from Verona" by the local amateur dramatic group.

Painswick Rococo Gardens is also one of the most stunning wedding venues in the Cotswolds, lucky is the bride who weds her groom in this idyllic setting. Ceremonies can be performed in the garden or in any one of its lovely buildings. For anyone wanting an intimate, romantic ceremony, what better than the top floor of the delightful Eagle House, which has sufficient room only for bride, groom and witnesses.

There is a lovely orangery available for all types of functions, this is available for exclusive use be it a lunch time affair or dinner.

The Coach House restaurant is open for coffee, lunches and teas.
