About Yorkshire Museum & Gardens

The Yorkshire Museum stands in spacious gardens on the banks of the River Ouse. It contains rich finds from the Roman city and houses an incredible collection of local antiquities.

Artefacts to be seen include pottery and porcelain, the fossilised remains of ichthyosaur and plesiosaur - these remains where unearthed at Whitby in the 19th century and are relics of large sea reptiles from millions of years ago.

In the museum garden visitors can see parts of the old City walls, ruins from St.Mary's Abbey and the fascinating Multangular Tower which was built as part of the Roman defences.

This is an incredible place with much to see and to learn of - it has something for everyone and makes an ideal visit for all the family.
