About Cropredy

Famous for the Battle of Cropredy Bridge, which took place in 1644 when on the 29th of June King Charles I was victorious over Waller, leader of the Cromwellian troops. Many of the brave men who took part in the battle are buried in the picturesque churchyard of Cropredy's beautiful 14th-century church dedicated to St.Mary the Virgin. Two suits of armour hang in the church in memory of this historic event.

Lying close to the banks of the Grand Union Canal, Cropredy can be found in pleasant open Oxfordshire countryside. It is an interesting place with a rich expose of architecture including thatched cottages and the thatched Red Lion Inn, located in a quiet lane opposite the church.

This is a delightful stopping place when exploring the leafy lanes and pretty villages of Oxfordshire.
