About Nether Worton

The picturesque village of Nether Worton lies in the peaceful valley of the River Tew within the boundaries of the area known as the Oxford Hundreds.

A timeless quality pervades this pleasant place. The village is hemmed in on almost all sides by farms and rich meadows that are contentedly grazed by healthy looking sheep and cattle. Closeby too, is the site of an ancient Hill Fort evidencing that these peaceful pastures have sleepily watched the passing of many centuries.

Built of mellow, honey coloured Cotswold stone, is the parish church of St.James. The church has a clock tower said to date 1630, and the church is unusually linked to a tiny schoolhouse building which as with the attached cottages is also built in Cotswold stone. This ancient cluster of buildings, not only presents a charming picture postcard view but it also serves as a reminder of the centuries old traditions that once bound together the church and education. You think too, of the work and play of the villagers that the church has blessedly smiled upon and you leave with a feeling of how very fortunate the inhabitants of this tiny village are in belonging to such a special place.

The Hundreds of Oxford cover a fascinating area that has countless little towns and small villages. The countryside is very beautiful and the whole area is rich in history. It is an amazing area which is well worth visiting.
