Sowerby Bridge together with the Ryburn Valley is one of the less known and visited areas of Yorkshire and yet has a wealth of history and excellent places to eat and drink

Its Rushbearing events over 2 days in September co-incide with the Norland Scarecrow Festival

Another excellent event is held at The Old Bridge Inn Ripponden by the Pork Pie Appreciation Society.

Sowerby Bridge Canal Basin has historic warehouses now fully occupied by Restaurants, Pubs and offices and is the home of the 12th Halifax Sea Scouts.

It forms the head of the Calder & Hebble Navigation which gives access to the Yorkshire Canals and is the start of the Rochdale Canal linking through the Pennines to Manchester.

Shire Cruisers based in one of the warehouses can provide you with canal hire to enjoy the spendid countrysides of our valleys.

Hello Mark, welcome to the family of POESmile

I hope Ted reads this as he was asking about hiring boats for canals.  Thanks for the interesting read.  I hope we will see more of you in the forums.
