Hello, my name is Casey and I am from Reidsville, Georgia, USA.  I am looking for any information I can find on my grandmother's family.  I know this is probably a long shot but I found this forum and thought I would give it a try.  Her name is Doreen Holland Register.  She met and married my grandfather in WW2 in Stockport, England.  They had one daughter (Margaret) in England before leaving for the states.  Her father's name was Alfred Holland and her mother's name was Harriet Beasley Holland.  Counting my grandmother they had five children and I believe my grandmother was the youngest.  The names of her siblings were Norman Holland, Alfred Holland, Margaret (Peggy) Holland and Annie Holland.  My grandmother is 82 and is not in the best of health.  I am not sure if any of her siblings are still alive.  After her parents died, not long after her coming the states, she lost track of her family.  It would be wonderful, if by chance, any of you are familiar with either the Holland or Beasley family but if not, if anyone had an idea of how I might go about locating any family members I would greatly appreciate the help.

I do hope to make it to England oneday.  I would love to be able to put sight to the many places she has talked about and stories she has told.

Thank you in advance  Smile

Sorry i can't help Casey, but I bet there is someone here that can, I do know Stockport from way back, but did not know your family.

I have never been able to trace my own family.

Wish you best of luck.  Wolf.

Thanks Wolf...

I have some old pictures of my great-grandparents and my grandmother when she was young.  I will try to scan them this week and put them on the forum.

A few things to try Casey - 192.com - this is a directory and you can find an amazing amount of information from this. Genes Reunited - it is a family history site as well as Friends Reunited.

Welcome by the way!

Hi Casey and welcome to POE!  I have family in Atlanta, Smyrna, and Marietta, but I have never heard of Reidsville.

Thanks to all of you for the information.  At least I've got a place to start.

Diana, Reidsville is about 65 miles west of Savannah, in Southeast Georgia.   It's a small town with one stoplight, blink and you miss it.  We probably have about 4000 people in Reidsville with a total of 28,000 in the entire county (Tattnall).

Again, thanks for the tips.  And I will try to attach a couple of pictures tomorrow.  I intended to do it today but time got away from me.  Typical Monday I guess you could say.

Casey

Casey

Just looking at the forum and saw your post. Don't know if you are still looking for family members .....   if you are still interested in contacting relatives there is a section in the Manchester Evening News every Saturday called "In Touch" which could run your request. The newspaper covers most of Greater Manchester and seems to have a good success rate. Write to them at Manchester Evening News, Hardman Street, Manchester M3 3RN. Check them out online as well!

Good luck

Jan
