Dose any one know if there is a 1841 census listing people by dewellings in Ledgate in or around 1841.

However we do have records of his [George Wildsmith] marriage to Mary Graham on the 14th of April 1844 at Wingate Grange in the district of Easington.George was not literate and made his mark whilst Mary signed her name. Georges’ father is recorded as John a farmer whilst his own occupation was noted as Pitman. born The first born was John Henry George at Wingate on (Christmas Day)  25 December 1844 and was registered at Easington on the 11 January 1845

George and Mary’s family was again extended with the birth at M237 Leadgate of Margaret Mary on the 30th June 1846 with the birth being registered at Lanchester on the 14-7-1846. The family is reported to have returned to Wingate Grange however Mary again returned to Leadgate where she gave birth to their third child another male Robert was born on 25 September 1848, investigations are still being conducted to verify the full details of his birth.

My Question is? Are there any records of the Wildsmith family or that of Robert Graham prior to 1848 when George left for finer pastures at Kapunda a copper mining village in South Australia.

My second question is where and does any memorial inscriptions exist at the local ce,etary for the family. Especially JOhn Wildskith his potential father.

Hi Bob, welcome to the family of POE

There is this family at Brick Maker's Sheds, Monk Hesledon, Easington, County Durham

Wilesmith John  age 45 b 1796, Richard 14 b 1827, George 16 b 1825. Occupation: brickmakers.  None of them born in County Durham.

It is possible that John was a widower, or that the three men had gone to find work and the wife and daughters may still have been wherever they originated from.
