James Jonas Rainbow was born in 1826 in Yorkshire and died in 1897 in Iowa.  James married Eliza Goody, who was born in 1831 in Soffolkshire and died in Iowa in 1909. Does anyone have more specific birth locations for James Rainbow and Eliza Goody?  Eliza's parents were James Goody and Sarah ?

Hi Carol. Can't help you I'm afraid but watch this space because I know a man here in POE who probably will. Don't tell him I said so, but his name begins with the letter 'P'...

Thank you Paul.  You have been so helpful.  Can you tell me what Ostler (born Tadcater!) means?  (In the thread about Sam Senior.)

Tadcaster is a market town in North Yorkshire.  An Ostler was someone who looked after horses i.e. a stableman or groom, often for visitors to hostelrys/inns thus they were also known as Hostlers as well.
