Looking for descendants/ information. On a photo, Wearne's name is 'Bert'.  They married Kerrier District in the 1st quarter of 1939.  Lily Tonkin is d/o Thomas D. Tonkin & Eveline Jane Haynes, born 1st quarter 1907 St. Teath, and baptised privately on 13 March, 1907 at St.Teath.  At age 4, 1911 Census, Lily is living with her maternal grandmother, Eveline (Haynes) Tonkin and her aunt, Rose Haynes. Another photo taken c. 1948 is of Lily's children, Tommy & Paddy (girl). Their ages (a guess) : Tommy about 8-10 & Paddy about 3 - 4. Any help is sincerely appreciated!  We have found all of Lily's siblings and descendants.  Some went to North America (USA & Canada).  My husband's grandmother, Dora Tonkin, is Lily's sister. All pictures we have (sent to Dora from their sister,Rose, who last lived in Falmouth) show their sister, Rose (Tonkin) Brown, with Lilly.  Lily was a lot taller than her sisters.  Last known address for Rose in 1955 was Chy-An Nor 3 Bank Place, Falmouth, Cornwall, England TR11 4AT.  There are several Wearne Ivey, but can't seem to find the right one.  Lily's (Tonkin) siblings are: Thomas Leonard (1891-1915); James Donald (1893 - 1970); Leoline May (1895-1994) ; Rose (1897-1955) ; Sidney George (1898-1976); Margaret "Maggie" (1900-1978) ; Dora (1902-1978) ; John Barrett (1905-1955) ; William (1911- 1982) Heather, Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada

Hi Heather; Wearne died in Cornwall in 1964, aged 63. Tallies with his birth year 1900 you mentioned elsewhere.  I also suspect Lily was his second wife, re-marrying after his first wife died quite young.  I think his first marriage was in 1934 to Ivy Nance ( 1908-1937) and had a daughter Ivy born 1937; their only child.

Then as you mentioned, his 1939 marriage to Lily ( various spellings?) Tonkin.  Her post 1939 years and the two children mentioned are a mystery at the moment.  Might be something a little unusual going on here?

But, might be a co-incidence, but in 1964 too, a Lily Ivey married a Telford Carter; Kerrier Registrar; then in 1989, a Lily Carter born Jan 1907 passed away in Brighton, Sussex. ( none in Cornwall). All co-incidences??? Hard to say at the moment.

Hi Paul,

I am very appreciative of your response. I ordered the marriage certificate today from GRO.  There are many skeletons in our closets sometimes.   The certificate hopefully will tell us. I will keep you posted. I would like to order birth certificates for Tommy & Paddy, but can't find any info on BMD.

I can't find the two children either as mentioned; from 1939 to 1950, nor any children in that period born with the surname Ivey and mum's maiden name Tonkin.  Maybe neither registered or another reason that hasn't come to light yet.

Their marriage certificate is the key to moving forward to where ever it leads.

Usually it's a boys name, Patrick/Paddy. But I just remembered at a convent near us, a nun there named Patricia has been known as Sister Paddy for as long as I can recall.

Did make me wonder if there was an Irish connection with these two children which might be why they'e both not turning up in English birth records; at least not under Thomas/Patricia Ivey.
