I can't understand why our national heritage keeps dissappearing like this, can you?

It seems to be a universal problem Andy, and I agree, it's terribly sad.

Here in Salem we have the home of Nathaniel Bowditch, (He wrote Bowditch's American Practical Navigator, which became the western hemisphere shipping industry standard for the next century and a half. Bowditch's influence on the American Practical Navigator was so profound that to this day mariners refer to it simply as Bowditch.) it's on the block for demolition and the local historical society is fighting to keep it and to renovate it.

My question, is, why is it even an issue? It should be preserved and made into a house/museum without question. Where I see incredible historical value, others just see a rambling old building.

I love the new avatar Diana and I love the picture Stephanie, thanks a million for posting it! To think, no more QE2 gracing Southampton docks. It's as sad as Concorde being pensioned off.

I agree Andy - I hate it when they wreck our heritage. My Dad worked on the Concorde nose cone designs with Rolls Royce. He had some Concorde ties they gave him. I wish I still had them! He would have been so sad to hear of it's demise. I'm glad you like the picture - it was stuck solid in my old album so I had to scan it through the the shiny cover which is a shame but it gives you the idea at least!
