That's it exactly! Home Cry

Exploring the countryside, being able to get right into the middle of it. Hearing birdsong, larks etc etc. The history that is wrapped into every last crevice and nook. Cornish PastiesTongue out (that's me drooling), real afternoon tea!  Shopping in London. Fabulous public transport that can, will and does take you anywhere. NOTHING like it out here.

Patrick the trains were imacculate last May/June. The only complaint from me is the overcrowding.

Bob, Lardy Cake has to be the best doesn't it? On the other hand a really nice spring roll from a decent Chinese restaurant takes some beating! Nod, nod, wink, wink the Peninsula Restaurant, George Street, Oxford! And the garlic spare ribs are something else!

Waking in the morning to the sound of birdsong coming through my open window, tossing back the down comforter, and heading for the kitchen from which emanates the delicious aroma of proper bacon and sausages being cooked for my full English breakfast.

Being able to go out walking in the countryside, along narrow hedge-lined lanes with little traffic (except the odd horse and rider), or over stiles to follow a footpath leading across pastures that belong to who-knows-who, being greeted by curious sheep as we pass.  Walking from one village all the way to the next and stopping in for a refreshing glass of cider or ale (a "swift half").

Sitting in quiet churches, hundreds of years old, oozing history, and strolling through their ancient churchyards with tilting tombstones.

Sharing a pot of tea and sandwiches, biscuits, or freshly baked scones in front of a cozy fire or sitting in a secluded garden (depending on the weather).

Chatting with anyone and everyone, particularly locals and enjoying the lovely lilting and diverse accents of the different regions.

Gardens of all sizes exploding with a riot of color and shapes and textures; the way that all manner of shops, pubs, etc. display enormous baskets overflowing with flowers on their storefronts; castles; thatched (or not) cottages; red double decker buses; red post boxes; red call boxes.

I love you, England!!!
