We're in the wonderful position of moving back to the UK but our problem is..............we don't know where to move to. We're keeping our house on the Gold Coast, renting it out then just shipping back our favourite possessions plus my business machinery and stock. I have a fashion design and clothing manufacturing business. My husband has not been back to the UK for 30 years (I left 5 years ago, not happily I might add). So, for his benefit and while our container arrives, the plan is to travel lightly and do some sight seeing to try and find our bearings. I am also hoping my husband will get a feel for where he thinks the best place is for us to settle. I grew up in the lake District so I need to live in a village or semi rural location plus I need to find business premises. I love Bourton on the Water. Haven't lived there but have visited and really would like to try living in a new area as I think going back to an old place isn't always a good idea. I love market towns, the countryside, farm shops, tea rooms and need to be where there is a pulse so close access to a larger town is good. I can't speak for my husband as we have yet to explore what he likes about the UK. As we enjoy pretty much the same things, I'm sure he'll love the scenery as he likes photography. It is a new challenge though, not least because I will be seeing it through a strangers eyes. it's like taking a new boyfriend home to meet my mother! Anyone know anything about Bourton on the water? Depending on logistics and frequency you need to move your merchandise, I would suggest the Yorkshire dales. Its a fairly affluent area with reasonable access to the A1 and M6. The Lakes are close enough for weekend jaunts and you'll find that there are number of farms which are converting unwanted barns into small business units. And of course the dales are glorious and the Yorkshire people have an sencerity which is to be admired. I stayed at Kettlewell where the Calendar Girls was filmed. However maybe a bit to rural.
