Thanks for your posts guys, I realise ther are legal implications etc (sad world) but in the 'spirit of POE' I would hope that members who post their pics on here are doing so to share the beauty of the island freely and not to promote there personal 'talant'.  I would hope that that the rules followed by the Knights of the Round Table (diplayed on the web) would be a guide.

Thanks for reading this thread, keep your support coming, I'm sure the staff at POE will welcome and evaluate your ideas.

cheers!Smile

Something like that?    Sketches of cover  January September November

p.s Please, do not sue the designer; all the pictures are temporary examples only, chosen exclusively to her own liking ! ;-)

Maria your calendar suggestions are absoutetly GREAT!  As Krissy says "Maria, you are amazing"  I wouldn't want to be in the position of having to choose the pictures since all the POE pictures are fabulous.

I can hardly wait to order my calendars.

Hi friends, first of all i'd like to apologise to my good lady for keeping her awake most of the night by tossing and turning as I pondered ways of helping POE. You may be aware that this fantastic site is in danger of collapse through lack of funding. I have come up with a few ideas that could help and I hope other members will use this thread to post there own ideas. I think we can put them into 2 catogries, Member driven and 'staff' driven.  Here are a number of my ideas-

Member Driven

1)  On-line auction - this would run on the lines of 'e-bay but poe members would 'donate' an unwanted item, other members would bid for it and the highest bid would go to POE funds. (It would have to be small items though, ie keepsakes, jewelry and the like because of the cost of postage).

2)  on-line Bring & Buy sale, this would work like the Church Hall sales in the Uk. A member would donate an item, the money from the sale would go to POE .

3) A 'world of pebbles' members could gather a small pebble from a river, beach, historic site or place of interest and offer it to other interested members for a small token sum, to be passed to the POE fund. If members worldwide collected these they would have a unique collection of pebbles from all over the world, a piece of England, America, Europe, Italy, Australia, it goes on. lol

4) Amuture Photograpers (Poe members), could approach small shop keepers, publicans, tea rooms of interest in their area and ask them for a small donation to Poe., if they could take an interesting picture of their business ie. shop front. and post it on Poe in the usual way. The interested shop keeper would, out of self interest look at poe,and draw the attention of his customers to the wonderfull Poe site.

POE Staff Driven

1) Sale of a 'certificate' to POE members for a 'small' donation to POE. The certificate could be A4 size, featuring St George or simular and the wording ' This is to certify that ...... is a honerable member of the 'Knights of POE' .......... This could be displayed with pride on the members wall/ office wall etc. as a reminder of England etc.

2) aproaching  sites such as English Heritage, English Tourist boards, local and County councils who wish to promote tourism in their district, for site sponsership or funding grants etc

3) approach wealthy patriotic business people such as Richard Branson, Debra Meeden (?) (from the Tv show Dragons Den, she has business interests in tourism in the West country. Sir Allen Sugar of Tv's Aprhentice fame, the list goes on and you are only asking for sponsership to a very sucessfull site. They could offer help in many ways such as free advice, equiptment, etc

These are a few ideas, some good, some maybe not so goodbut at least they are ideas, I hope other POE members can submit ideas on this thread too?

Wow,i like all these Michael! I welcome any and all.i gave to the cause, yet,i know ,more is needed. Please add myself to any and all of the possibilities for a continuation of "Our Family"

Very well done MG but how do we get it moving 'for real'. We need to get to grips with what is obviously a well received idea. I thought Nela was involved at one stage, what happened? Did Nela, is Nela still involved or working on it? Clearly we have the makings of a decent calendar but who shall be prepared to carry it forward? Where are you Nela?

Select 20 perfect images of each theme considered vital to essential portrayal of England. Take a look at other calendars currently for sale..catch their tailwind and use the example ( market research).

ie/ landscape, churches, flowers etc.

Send a letter of introduction /proposal to publishers of calendars..day books etc... if you get a bite~ make a deal for a cut of sales revenue...( 15% of wholesale ). The publisher pays for printing, promotion and distribution..and also ( may)allows some product to be sold privately.

One phone call to a publisher will determine whether or not you are too late for 2010 calendars....( probably)

I'm only the designer providing the files, Ron, you are the PR man Laughing

I've never had anything printed on large scale. Anna sounds to be more into it.  I can only tell you about online orders at Apple.                               Benefits: you can order anything anytime, 2009 and/or 2010 calendars, along with cards, picture books and single prints.  Fine works.                   Downsides: price for a calendar is about 25$ (10% off for 25 calendars or more).

I'm in touch with Nela, altough I've not heard from her for a while actually. Will look for her on messenger or email.

I've often added to my 'Favourites' pictures which I would love to have as large prints, or even greetings cards. I know there would be a lot to consider but if contributors were happy to donate all or part of the profits of such sales ..... ? Mark Rowney's fabulous winter scene, for example, what a Christmas card that would make!
