I live in Penshaw, Sunderland, Tyne & Wear, and of course when I became a member I looked at what is of interest in my immediate area.  Penshaw only has two attractions, Penshaw Monument, and Herrington Country Park.  Under ‘Attractions in Penshaw’ I find thirty one such attractions, some of which are nearly thirty miles away.

I then look at the bigger picture and choose ‘Sunderland’.  I look at the ‘attractions in Sunderland’ to find thirty attractions of which only four are actually in Sunderland, ‘Herrington Country Park’, ‘Washington Old Hall’, ‘Hylton Castle’, and ‘Mowbray Park’.

A lot of the attractions are not even in Tyne and Wear.

I do not know if I’m doing right or wrong in drawing these facts to your attention but I’m wondering if these other attractions from out of the area are just after publicity on the backs of others.

Could you please add ‘Penshaw Monument’,  ‘Washinton Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust’ and Washington Old Hall into Sunderland attractions, and ‘Washington Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust’ and ‘Washington Old Hall’ into Washington attractions

Ian, the database has been developed over the years and naturally there wasn't an attraction for all that you suggest at the beginning, so the 'next nearest' town/city is automatically plucked out. We rely on people such as you to do exactly what you are doing/saying, that is name the attractions that you would like added to POE. Having done so Chris and Sarah will add accordingly as time permits. No right or wrong Ian, just thank you for identifying something that will make POE a better resource. I have copied C&S and make no mistake they will add your suggested attractions if they are not already there! Thank you!!

may I add that if you live in, or visit  England and your favourite place or attraction is not featured on POE for the world to see, or if the posts dont do them the justice or represetation you think they deserve. may I suguest that if you can improve some of these representations posted, please, please do so.

May I also add that many town and city libraries have a local history section with a wealth of facinating history storey's that unfortunatly dont get shared with the general public, but tourists and visitors (and even residents) would love to embrace.

Perhaps you taking a picture of the site etc. and writing a small explaination would put a forgotten place of interest on the visitors map.
