All this is for the amount of people who use Heathrow as Terminal2 was having to handle eight times the total it was built for. There is still talk of a new runway in the south of England but - Where would you put it ? Should we let it happen ? Should we on POE have England lost ? for when things like this happen. |

But have to admit to knowing little about the plans for the future Heathrow East Terminal. In response to your questions: Where would you put it ? Upper Heyford, Oxfordshire which was of course an ex USAF base, and a huge area with runway!! Should we let it happen ? Has to happen somewhere, doesn't it? Should we on POE have England lost ? Brilliant idea (as long as you don't include Cricket Lol). I will mention it to Chris and Sarah, or you could go right ahead and start a new thread for such events!!

If you fly into the U.K ( London ) and use any of the other Airports you land + leave on the same runway - fun if the timing is out. Where ? Gatwick is the place i would put it, for such a big Airport it needs to be looked at. As for ( The Mayor of London ) Boris Johnson and his idea of a Airport in the Thames Estuary when people are already talking about the Thames Barrier at some point having to have work on it to be made bigger with what is happening to the sea levels, Boris i feel has lost the plot. Should it ? Like you ( Ron ), yes it has to. Even if it is the let the POE family from out of this country come over and take some great photos for us to look at - lol. England lost ? It was just an idea as things change everywhere and when great-great grand-children look back on here, they and others can see how things have changed. The same as we do with - Ancient England - has on here for us to look at on PicturesOfEngland.com Edited by: sean grogan at:25th November 2009 02:10 |

I guess they do need another. I found all 4 airports that I flew in and out of over there (Heathrow, Luton, Leeds Bradford and Bournemouth) to be extremely clean, efficient and well run.

Yes Heathrow dose only have two runways and is the only Airport in the south of England to have this, the big talk is where another should be ! We have to remember that when Heathrow started life that Aircraft only carried fifty passengers at a time at most, plus had six runways but today the other four have been built on with the size of what Heathrow is today. We all understand that things change and like Heathrow having to close Terminal2 / Queens Building and soon Terminal1 to grow and cope with all the people that use the Airport. Ron has a great idea and the talk is of adding to a Airport that is already up and running or finding somewhere that will work in years to come, with this England will have to give up a village or two in order to build a runway somewhere by the looks of it. |

I hope not, Sean. Heathrow is one of THE major airports on the planet, and they seem to be doing just fine, IMHO. I think that's a major accomplishment - "One of the world's busiest airports and a major European hub. And we do it all with only 2 runways!" Hope these plans aren't just change for the sake of change, or to line somebody's pockets.

Luton and Standstead are great but the links to the rest of England are not the same, Ron's idea of Oxfordshire is great as that area can be linked in with a main rail line and is easy for road links to a couple of Motoways. The only thing i see with any of this is - What will have to be lost whatever they come up with. Or is it me and there is somewhere or something someone hasn't thought of ? |
