Pancake Day

People here wait in anxious anticipation for paczki--signs proclaiming the coming of the paczki pop up in seemingly every bakery window about a week before Shrove / Fat Tuesday! Local TV news programs extol the virtues of this artery-clogging confection in the days before Ash Wednesday! If you've ever had a really good jelly-filled or custard-filled doughnut--well, take that wonderful taste and multiply it by a factor of about 100 . . . voila! Paczki! And now I have to wait another year to have them!
