That's interesting, James.  I was told by my former father-in-law that the Shoemakers were Pennsylvania Dutch, so it somehow makes sense there would be Shoemakers making clogs somewhere.  But it makes for no end of teasing when one is a child - "Hey Shoemaker!  Make me a pair of shoes!"  Funny stuff when you're 8!  My maiden surname is Newkirk which many people had trouble spelling and/or pronouncing for some reason.  Seems fairly straightforward to me.

Sorry for getting off subject here, Ron!  Now, back to the telly you lot!

The new ITV Edwardian drama Downton Abbey which will be shown Sunday at 9 PM was filmed at Highclere Castle, North Hampshire, a few miles south of Newbury, Berkshire.  The servant's kitchen and dining area was filmed at Ealing Studios, West London.The TV adverts promoting the new programme nearly copied my photo on Poe for the camera location.
