"Sir" (not!) Fred Goodwin, former head of the Royal Bank of Scotland, aka "Fred the Shred," has his knighthood shredded . . . by God, there IS some justice!

Perhaps more of these corrupt bankers and financiers might be stripped of their knighthoods or life peerages, which seems to be an idea currently floating around, in much the same way as the ex-Sir Fred.

In a earlier era, highly placed miscreants who had abused the trust of the Crown were often led to the scaffold and beheaded--nowadays, it is more likely that these same types of rogues might merely end up being "be-Fredded." Zounds, methinks I like the sound of that!

Of course, we could all cry out as one, "Off with their Freds!" (Please excuse the unintended double entendre here!)
