We did have a time when we were not allowed to video the school plays which was a shame because they are lovely memories but we found out that it was because one child was on the Child Protection register in the class so they had good reason to stop people filming. Our school has a very balanced view and we just have to sign to allow them to put pictures on websites and in newspapers but they never mention names. As long as the photo is decent I can't see a problem really.

I can't say I've heard of the same thing over here.  I've never heard of it being illegal or politically uncorrect to photgraph in public.  But I think in the digital age it's very important to use discretion as to what you post to a photo site or send via email.  You never know where they'll end up.  I took a lot of really cool photos in London, but there were clear shots of people's faces in them (almost unavoidable in London, really), but I didn't send them in to POE for just that reason.

What a sad sad world we all live in now.

True. Times have moved on and I’m not sure if it’s for the better. I have recently been running a school art web site, I show the children’s work but sadly I can’t show the children proudly holding the efforts they make. If you look at my photos on this site you will see I show no people at all.

Ruth, you can blur just the faces in photos and post them with nobody being able to recognise them. You will find very few people in my photos, if there are, it is usually their backs. But as I explained before, nobody owns the copyright of their faces. and there is no law to stop you taking and showing photos with recognisable people in them. As long as it is a PUBLIC place there is nothing to stop you taking photos. It is good manners to ask, but you dont have to. Just keep away from children.

Thanks, Peter.  I'm learning more and more from you about photo editing ever day.  Does Infranview have the face blur feature?

Not a face blur, but I think it has a blur feature. Just make the brush size to fit the face and dab it down untill it is blured enough. You should find the blur tool in the tool bars.

OK, Peter thanks. Maybe I'll use it to make myself look younger on my next avatar.
