That is a lovely place Lorraine. We should all have been so lucky to go to such a school. When I was in grade school in Atlanta, GA, the school was so dangerous that they actually assigned armed police escorts to the busses we rode in.  I remember one particularly harrowing incident when a class mate (Ken) and I were sitting on the bus together and an older kid got out of his seat walked over to Ken and stabbed him in the stomach only because he didn't like the fact that Ken was of oriental decent.

Also, the older kids used to make paper air planes and set them on fire before throwing them through the air at other students as well as the teachers.  It was a rough neighborhood! LOL!

Oh wow, that is bad. Armed police? :o

Are school has armed police. It's not that bad of a place here, but in the last two years, we've had: bomb threat, and a 3 hour lockdown. Hm a bunch of people came into the school with a pipe. Are school is huge, so they had a lot of armed SWAT officers in the school.

My history teacher was talking about his experience. Him, and the class where hiding behind his desk, and television. Then after like 30 minutes, they heard the door knob turning. Here's everyone panicking. Then in about 30 seconds... the door opened. Then all they see is this semi-automatic rifle pointed in the door. Everyone has no idea, what is going on so there nervous like crazy. Then they come in, and point the guns at the teacher. Then say that there the police. LOL

How scary would that be? lol We have two onsite police officers in our school.

My goodness! And I thought all this school violence was a recent thing.

I remember we had the occasional fight at school, but it was always fisty-cuffs, no knives and definitely no guns.

When I was a kid, it would NEVER occur to us that anything bad could happen!  Nothing ever did!!  Apart from a hunting accident and a child at school bus stop!

But now they have to teach our children what to do if there is a terrorist in the school!!!  Surprised

But then again...my dad grew up during WWII and he remembers doing bombing drills at school and jumping into bushes when the air raid sirens would go off in town!!

Catherine, I was a bundle of nerves, often!  I used to dilly dally around so that I would miss the bus on purpose and my mother would have to drive me to school!

I remember in my 11th year a girl was raped at knifepoint. It has been going downhill since then. I guess I am glad my daughter is not in the public school system anymore but college is just as bad. I worry more about her getting menengitis. She is on Remicade which kind of shuts her immune system down. She could catch anything very easily.
