Try to remember though, you've paid your National Insurance all your working life for that rather nice blue thing! I ran a mobility shop in a hospital not so long ago, I've been witness to some terrible scenes, both on and off the wards. We pay for the NHS, it's only right we get the best treatment.

I agree, Andy - and I must admit when my mother was dying in hospital I saw some examples of really poor treatment. But my own experiences have generally been very positive. And whenever I've needed the NHS, I've always felt grateful, and also thought there's no way I would do that kind of work. I'm glad not everyone feels like that. |

It's just such a shame that everything we hold dear in this country seems to get farmed out to 'sub-contractors'. My sister was a nurse, then matron and was in the profession all her working life. It's an amazingly difficult, but rewarding career....not made any easier by the 'too many chiefs and not enough indians' mentality of the NHS. As usual, it's all about money which is mis spent on the men in suits and not the doctors and nurses. I'm glad you got good treatment John, it's no more than you deserve. Let's hope the nursing staff are justly rewarded for the difficult jobs they do. |

So no gripes from me about it..only praise!

Unfortunately we have no NHS in the US. It's shameful that in arguably the most prosperous nation on earth we have about 67 million people with nada, zilch, zip health care coverage of any kind. As long as I can remember, whenever the topic has come up there's always been a fear of "socialized medicine." Capitalism at it's finest, folks. Andy, what's a mobility shop? I'm guessing a place where they sell wheelchairs, walkers, commodes, etc. and other aids for the disabled.
