Posts: Joined: 1st Jan 1970 | When Emma’s dog Tilly was a puppy, my son took her for a walk while Emma was at work, I went along with him, it was a cold January day with snow on the ground, we was walking by the river and I walked up to the bank to take some pic’s, Tilly followed me but instead of stopping at the edge she jumped into the ice cold water, before I could stop him my son jumped in after her, this was probably one of the most frightening times of my life, I didn’t know what to do, I have a real fear of water and am not a good swimmer, luckily, both of them got out in one piece without me having to jump in but if I had to make the choice, well, there would be no choice to make I would of saved my son, losing Tilly would have been heart breaking but losing my son would have been devastating. |

I remember as a policeman, attending a barn fire on the outskirts of rural Bedfordshire. I arrived to see smoke curling from the barn and met the agitated owner. He told me that because of the number of break ins he had suffered over the years, he had bought a ferocious German Shepherd guard dog that was loose within the building. He was too frightened of it to go in because it had bitten him on several occasions. I decided that I had to do something and collected up a length of baling twine, and opened the door. The room was smoke filled but there in the corner was the dog. I approached it, talking to it and making soothing noises, slipped the string around its neck, and walked it out of the barn. The owner could not believe that the dog did not bite me. I am sure that dog knew that I had come to save its life. |

I know we, of poe, are all thinking of you and wishing an end to your torment. Re the dog thing. No, I am no hero; I only did what anyone else would do: also, when you wear a uniform and you arrive at a scene, you are expected to do something...so you do! lol |

Did I get that right? 'Ditto' Rays comments Catherine. Remember the power of POE. You have member friends to turn to if you want to talk. |
