That's probably why it's big here, so many Irish immigrants. I just looked it up on Wiki. Pretty cool history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloween

I wasn't very happy to say the least! So i'm one of those 'miserable old bags' who wont open the door to them now LOL |

We had eggs thrown at our house and car one year. One of the eggs hit the glass of our door so hard it scared Sarah and our younger kids half to death. I chased them down the road and caught up with two of them, but they denied everything of course and i was powerless to do anything, so we ended up phoning the police as it had happened before and the eggs actually damaged the car. The police paid one of the culprits a visit and it hasn't happened since, thankfully. We still enjoy halloween and so do the kids. Sarah hands out lots and lots of sweets, but it's always a worry that the few idiots might return and spoil it for everyone else. |

They threw apples off our old tree at my neighbour's son when he was 13, they drew on our front door. One year when Aaron was 2 he ran to the door and saw a "ghost" looking in and he was so petrified he wouldn't sleep. He still remembers it now. I used to hate it even more when Terry worked nights! I am a really mean Mom - I won't let the boys go round as I worry about the old folks being scared. I think it works better in the USA because most only go out on the one night and more people do it - here they knock the door for the whole of October and they are usually yobs! Going back to Jason's question - I have watched Most Haunted but I think it was best on Harry Hill's TV Burp Jason - did you see him sending it up! |

I always enjoyed Holloween because we knew so many of the kids that came to our door, now they come with their kids...all grown up...for us it wasn't an spooky time..it was catchng up with what people you hadn't seen in some time was doing. I still haven't seen some "Twilight Zone" old episodes I'd bought from Avon an couple of years ago. Do you guys remeber going to the movies as an little kid, and before they started they showed on cartoon or two, the latest world news, and then an small episode of "The Hand"...that had an "life" all of it's own? Maybe that's why I don't like thngs that "creep".... Just the thought of it...yuck! Even people that saw it and repeatedly shot it with an gun could never escape it, you knew it would be back the next week...creeping around....going to strangle someone to death, or who knows what.Gesh!!! |

This also applies to Canada USA. and Australia it's about time we all stood up and take back our country
ENGLAND I think this really sums it all up. After hearing that many cities did not want to offend other cultures by putting up Xmas lights, so DIDN'T! After hearing that the Birmingham council changed its opinion and let a Muslim woman have her picture on her driver's licence with her face covered. After hearing of a Primary School in Birmingham where a boy was told that for PE they could wear Football League shirts (Aston Villa,Birmingham, West Brom etc) but NOT an England shirt as it could offend others ! This prompted the editorial below written by a UK citizen. Published in a British tabloid newspaper. IMMIGRANTS. NOT BRITONS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on London , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Brits. However, the dust from the attacks has barely settled and the 'politically correct' crowd begin complaining about the possibility that our patriotism is offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Britain . However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of London being a multicultural centre for community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Britons, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of wars, struggles, trials and victories fought by the untold masses of men and women who laid down their lives and one of the millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language! 'In God We Trust' is our National Motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture. If St.George's cross offends you, or you don't like ' A Fair Go', then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our National Motto, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great British freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'. We didn't force you to come here. If you don't like it GO HOME!! You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted. Pretty easy really, when you think about it.
