Well, Shirley, if they legalize it and collect taxes, it will accomplish several things:

1. Once the taboo is gone, Marijuana will, in time, lose its appeal and less people will use it.

2. In the mean-time, legalizing it will greatly hurt illegal drug dealers, getting a few of them off the streets...for a while at least.

3. Legalizing it will mean purity inspections, preventing dangerous lacing of other more deadly substances into the marijuana.

4. The tax revenue can be put to good use.

No I don't think legalizing it would be a good thing.  First it's tobacco, then marijuana, what's after that?  Jason, what's your view on Marijuana, (if you don't mind me asking), you will see first hand, in your line of work.

Yes, should be interesting to see what Jason has to say about it...well, we had an fire here in southern Oregon, and up went the "pot" that people were growing on platforms in pots..fire rangers felt it was one of the "sweetest" fires they'd ever fought...mariuana up here is against the law, but not in the state south of us. Up here it gets most everything you own and your kids automatically taken away from you, so does "meth" ad other such items..and pimping or prostitution...they esp like your new car.  Marijuana has been on the ballot more then once in an battle to legalize it an never won. Mainly because people have felt to make it to easy to get would make it's useage mushroom..it already has.. not being legal when hispanics and Californians started coming up.. as they see it an recreational drug. One in their state widely accepted. Did you know that most 10 year old girls are now getting "pimped" by older male "teens" in their family for sex these days according to an new poll...this is done at school for after school hours.  10 year olds, some schools down to the first grade...sad. Very sad to think kids this age would even know about such things. My hubby and myself don't smoke..but my son does..he learned it at school. Told him it would help calm his nerves. Probably smoked for about 6 months before we knew and he was never out of our site...except for being in school. Well, I'll keep listening and I know there are people that do say, it's worse if it' s not allowed, then.. allowed and controlled. But how do you draw the boundry line? ..once it's not there?...... Jason another good one for you to answer.

The Government here reduced the classification of cannabis a few years ago making it only a slap on the wrist if people were caught with it. They have had to u-turn and move it back up from Class C to Class B because of the introduction of "skunk" into the country - a much stronger and more harmful version.

I do not believe in legalizing any drugs. I am very anti-drugs except of course prescription drugs. I have never smoked and I no longer drink alcohol.

Odd one, obviously i can't say i really agree with legalising it. I don't take it, but obviously see a lot that do! Having said that i've never been to a cannabis overdose, i've never been to a fight, or assault that was purely brought on by taking cannabis, i've never been to a confirm death resulting just from cannabis use. Now alcohol is a different story!! been to hundreds of each, all as a direct result of alcohol use!! and i do drink alcohol (ok not to excess!!)

I've visited plenty of people who have good jobs and are very 'normal' intelligent seeming people, who do use it!! but....i've also been to lots of teenagers that use it to massive excess too!! this really does damage them, long term! So really summarising i think alcohol is FAR worse, but seems to be accepted. But its all down to people been sensible and we all know a lot of people aren't!! and unfortunately we all have to dumb down to the dumbest in society! It would certainly take the wind out of the drug dealers sails if it was leagalised!  but on the whole i don't think it should be! it would create more problems maybe?

Legalization of any substance that may impair the user and affect their judgement is bad news (alcohol included). But, having said that, the floodgate was opened with alcohol so it's difficult to deny the use of one sensory impairing substance and allow the other.

BTW...I have never used drugs or smoked pot in my entire life...and I grew up in the sixties.

Cheers,

Bob

I agree with Diana,  there are a lot of pro's and con's.

Working in a Doctor's office and seeing very sick, hurting ppl i do think sometimes it would be nice for them to at least be able to have it perscribed to them. I know if i had Cancer and i have had several family memebers who have suffered dearly i would want some.

Debbie, we had an gal at our nurshing home facilty (it was specialized) that was to the point of "screaming" constantly from her cancer pain..our director of nurses found and took her personally to the only known "acuptunturist" in the territory because the woman was on the highest dose of morphine they could give her without killing her...they literally deaden every nerve in her body that dealt around the Cancer pain..she not only didn't cry out in pain to where her whole wing could hear her.., but she at times reagained a bit of her mentality by having it done.. until she died. she was in the last stages. Now of course they are starting the "cell stem" organ implants in hopes some day many of us can literally have "Cancer" healed from that alone. I had my first shot of "morphine" in my life when I was in emergency passing Gall Stones...they could not get me to lay down any other way for the ultra sound machine to confirm it was Gall Stones for the pain involved. Operated and took stones and Gall Bladder out of all things..through my belly button area... they sucked them out...after breaking them up.  As far as I know "medical" Marijuana is allowed in the state of Oregon.
