I see another death in the Jaramello family...this makes two this year, Gene was the Exaulted ruler for many years of the (Portland) Gateway Elks Lodge, he is Native American rooted..his "babysitter" worked nights with me at an large retail chain, as she also helped to run the Portland National guard here as an secretary(she was an guardsman) ..she was an PIC then (person in charge). I was an PWB..person with new tiny baby. Art Bell of coast to coast reminded me an lot of Gene. whom I happened across at an dinner for the officers one year, as they installed our host in the group we joined with... Don Jones, as our Exaulted ruler, whom later went on to state President.Gene walked up to me knowing fully well, being new in the lodge that I was perpelxed trying to remember everyone's names as they offered them. He said, You know what you do, you walk up to someone and you say, you know I forgot your name, so silly of me,... and then if they give their last name, you say I meant your first name, ....and vice versa if they give you their first name instead..and I laughed and agreed that would be one way to help me indeed. So when he came though my check out stand at work, I said to him, let's see, Mr. Jeramello, I think your first name is "Gene"...and we both laughed. Blessings to him, I see like so many Native american's the funeral services are at the Catholic church. Something they had forced upon them as Native Americans.Something that may in the end prove to destroy The Lawson legacy of my hubby...we can only piece meal it together from Federal census papers because the Cathlic dicocese in the area only kept their own church leaders records and none of that of the people surrounding the community...or its history. So sad. 2. Two more days of Spring Break for the kids..amid the gloomy week of weather. 3. Lots to do... an little ambition to do it right now. |
