Oh and horse manure. Love it. Espcecially if the horses were fed with molassass in their feed. Made the poo smell sweet!!! |

On the North Mountain above the Bay of Fundy, laundry pegged & hung in the landward wind on a line made of sisal rope with a forked red osier willow for the prop in the middle, which swayed back and forth. Haymows, where the loft is warm and fragrant and pigeons and swallows fly in and out of the open windows.. milky smell of newborn kittens found tucked in a round nest between the bales, peonies on a summer evening and petunias and lobelia in hanging baskets. and, whatever fuel mixture they used for the model airplanes when I was a kid..( 40's).the planes handheld by wires and I can still see the men flip the prop to get the engine started..and the blue smoke and droning of the little plane circling our field. |
