Sadly, you're only looking at a couple of grand at most for trade-in.

This is sad...remembering my dear old Yellow Bird ~ 78' Volvo wagon...so many  miles, so trustworthy, brave and cool!

82 Cordoba, Saffron,  another steady old girl...a great boat of a car...spoke hubcaps, fake leather top...automatic, cruise control ..

My dream car is a Series 11A  1961 - 1970 Landy stationwagon with a russet canvas top

I'm waiting for an bit..the electric cars are coming out here soon..and some of them are looking pretty good so far. Not the ones by GM though..to expenisve.

It has nothing to do with "national" pride....G. I. Joes went out yesterday here another 1500 jobs locally. We can't buy if we don't have employment and high enough we have purchasing power.

We personally don't buy anything unless it gets at least 30 MPG in an car, and can fit the family in it. Try looking around in Japan on-line also...I like their "meter reader" cars myself, they fit two popel, but for around town they'd do me good...look like an "Half car" almost.  Can't say as I know your conditions that well in England to be of much help Krissy. If you buy an smaller car, you can always "rent" an bigger one for outttings. It's been some time but an Nissan we rented, we put 4,000 miles in one week on it "renting it" ..it was something like $150 US dollars..we carry our own insurance, and took out another $50 for the car repairs or to replace it if anything happned to it, I thought it was worth it..at the end of the week, we took it back, and had no monthly car payment to make an drove an brand new car. We also didnt' put 4,000 miles on the cars we already owned...as we pay our insurance by an "set" number of miles we drive, So we really can't be buzzzing up and down the street all the time. I don' tthink we are going to make headway on this car thing unless we do go electric and then it would have to "inexpensive". I guess it's back to horses and carriages next..Heh?

Buy a used car, with low mileage coming off a lease. .I had great luck with Hondas and Saturns.Don't buy any extras when going used, waste of money.Gas mileage is key in these times.Subarus are fine if you can fit in them.Volvos and Saabs are a must to avoid.Good luck.

Krissy, Hyundai's are actually very reliable and moderately priced vehicles. I've known several people who own them (and when they trade them in they trade for another Hyundai), including me and no complaints. Although, I have to say, a Mini Cooper is what my heart longs for!

My dad bought me a new Datsun in 1982...eventually,I wanted to give it away to a friend who needed wheels...so I mailed her the carkeys from the airport as I was leaving for my holiday to England....returning home to west coast Canada...

6 months later, a friend said..

" hey, I think I saw your old Datsun with a flat tire in the parking lot at the Vancouver airport"

I never saw the car again, and after a polite passage of time, never heard from the parking ticket people again.
