Jason, your something else...you guys have an heliopter port by now..like they have over here for the really serious stuff?  $3,000 an ride...ambulances here are $800 an ride and insurance doesn't pay them. They have to come off the people's savings, or make monthly payemnts for the services(ouch!).... so people here don't call an abluance at the slightest whim... they do call the fire house though that has an "first aide" truck for the little stuff....they can call in an ambulance if they feel the problem needs assistance of an ambulance. If you refuse ambulance service you have to sign an waiver also that you denied their service if they show up...esp  in an car accident. It's going to where we don't have "doctors" we have "emergency" and/or "911" and hospital specialists at emergency doors and the doctors mainly handle routine tests collecting yearly for things like mamograms and colon cancer tests, colds, non-threatening type stuff..and for referrals also. I can't thnk o fwhen my primary docotor really did much, as to rahter "gater all the information up" and keep it in general..my cardiologist is doing the heart stuff for me... the hosptial does my "emergency" needs...like when I had the flu bug real bad. It didnt' take them though days to get rid of it either, it was gone before the day was out with the worst of it all....completely gone withn 48 hours. I am considered an "high risk" patient, so they do it up good and I don't go in for just every little thing bothering either, it's still expensive. I still get an $300 to 600 bill to pay out of my pocket after insurance has paid. I really can't afford ill health. but say, there's 4 billion people out in the world besides just me.

My son was in an accident about 1/8 of a mile up from the hospital, the police called an ambulance (and rightly so, he was unconscious), which travelled half a block to pick him up, and we got a bill for $800.00 for that, plus you are charged separately for every piece of equipment that is used, including sponges and gauze.

Expensive stuff, but you have to do what you have to do.

Some UK residents are always having a go at our National Health service (Mainly those with a financial interest in 'Private' Medicine).

The fact is in the UK, you can fall down a cliff, injure your head, be rescued by the local or National RNLI (Life-boat Service) or Mountain Rescue team, Flown by air ambulance or RAF/Navey Air-Sea Rescue, to be met by fully trained Paramedics, then taken by Ambulance to the nearest Accident unit, assessed by well trained/Qualified Doctors and staff, Transfered by Ambulance/Helicoptor to the best Specialist Hospital, have your injury scanned by the most up-to-date Scanners, If Brain Surgery etc is needed you will be operated on imediately by some of the best surgeons in the world, spend weeks recovering in a High dependancy unit with 24/7 specialist care, free food and stay throughout your recovery then ambulnce home where you will be looked after by trained visiting Medical aftercare service.

You will receive financial payment whilst off work etc.NONE OF THESE services  mentioned  WILL COST YOU (or your family) A PENNY. ITS ALL ABSULUTLY FREE OF CHARGE, even to those who have never paid Nation Health Service Contributions.  Proud to be British!

Micheal hands up for the British,... I consider health care along with food, and shelter, seasonal warmth/cold and education something the world can't afford to make so expensive that people go without. It won't help humanity for people to go wihout, let's put it like that, and taking one's livehood from them in lving conditions to pay for health care...only see's an even larger Governemnt dependent welfare society in the end. The basics to life should be free. We have 11.8 million Illegal immirants in our country, no hospital can refuse them service, so they aught to extend it to the people that do pay taxes, the old, the infirm, and the children that are legal citizens. It's an "cope out" also when they marry or rape "Americans" to be allowed to stay in the country as an "parent" also. which has been going for some time in the southwestern states with the illegals coming in. It is equally wrong when the illegals are prostituted out also by so called "relatives" if they can't find jobs here. One such young lady left the body of an infant she could of cared less about in an dumpster not far from here from that going on, they eventually sent her back to Mexico...she had no idea who the baby belonged to and didn't really want it. She hide her pregancy also. In normal circumstances she would of been charged for murder, but her case was so pathetic, they thought the best they could of done ..was send her home to her parents. She was very young, still an minor. supposedly being taken care of by "relatives"...whom prostituted her out for feeding and boarding her. You know they still beleive in the art of apprenticeship through older relatives to learn an trade to support themselves with...apparently prostitution was one of them in this case.  I would be very uspeset to know my 14 to 16 year old virgin, whom I sent  to older relatives, in this case an sister and her husband, to have an better life ended up with what this poor child was made to go through. it is no onder some people feel "America" sucks. It was wrong what happened. Most likley an ardent Catholic on top of it all, her life was destroyed.  Sometimes our not wanting them up here, is more then just the fact of the employment problems, but one where we see them abused also by pimps, drug war-lords from back home, and the gang violence that prememates their culture. We need to be raised worldwide without the third world cultural problems. (1) alcoholism and health issues in general (2) Lack of food, (3) violence..many times involving  Drugs, (4) Lack of education (5) Lack of an living wage,(6) lack of affordable housing (7) Lack of meaningful purpose in the world. Even getting it down to sustainable figures to deal with...would be helpful.

I know what you mean Shirley, I only hope your new President gets moving on some of the issues you mention, especialy the 'free' medical care for all. I would hate to go to bed thinking 'What if me or my family needed medical care?' and was I going to be 'billed for it?  Health care should be free world-wide, a basic 'right' in 2009, god, its 40 years since a man landed on the moon and people still suffer because they cant afford to see a Doctor.  Anyway enough I'm getting off my soap box, Britains Got Talant is just about to start on TV, Did you see last weeks show Wow. Bye all til next timeLaughing

Looks like the police have been able to wrap things up, even without finding the mans hands to use as identification.

What a sad way to end your life, being strewn about the countryside. Such disrespect for human life is appalling.
