Yes, Krissy, this was one that really grabbed you.  It was so moving that even the 3 judges coudn't hide their reaction.  I think the reason it touched so many people, apart from her incredible talent, is she showed a lot of guts and quiet dignity that went way beyond our idea of physical beauty.  I wish her all the best, and I hope she doesn't let them "make her over."  It makes you wonder how many people are out there with amazing talent that were never given the chance because of "packaging."

I heard that the no. of hits on the video is up to 33 million, and so is the no of searches for the word "gobsmacked"  - the word Susan used to describe her experience.  I'm proud to say that I already know what it meant, thanks to this lovely forum.  lol

I can think of a few non-celebrity males who could use a little tweaking or pruning.   Diana, I took an "dating" test one year when they first came out on the net to see whom or what kind of guy they said I deserved, would be compatible with, of the three they picked, two were international businessmen, and one was here and a compuer guru type professor. They were the type you see carrying young sweet things down the road on their arm. I answered those tests honestly also. I told my hubby afterwards, if you don't like me, as I am.. it's only the way you treat me. You can be sure they don't treat the gals of their choice in anything but the best of lifestyle. Perhaps why they have gotten as far as they have in life? But they also were not married, so maybe it was they thought of themselves first and foremost also..who knows. It was an interesting little expereiment though.

Quite an few Ruth, you'd  never recongize me the supervisor... from me the housewife. Supervior.. 129 pounds, long blonde hair put up in an French twist twice an week, professionally, into local social clubs, traveling all over the place otherwise...me....the housewife, over 200 pounds, losing my hair, never go anywhere, when I do my hubby takes me to cheap places to eat, I never get my hair done, dropped out of most the social clubs and people I use to run around with, I feel  like an servant and am treated like an dog. Of course the troll came along also and wants to make me appear to be "crazy" or illterate  also at times. I can remeber when I use to "Be" like Susan boyle sings. What went wrong,... I gave up my life, for helping others. I am now told, that without money..I'm useless to most everyone, and an person to be passed over also.My doctor see's how dependent he can make me on drugs these days in ways as well. Yes, it does take someone to help give that first little "opportunity" for change and allow it to go forth in the world also. I have an husband that lives off the word "NO" unless I can buy it myself, and yet he expects just the opposite for himself. My son is also that way now and then also. Beauty is something expensive these days, and its true, it costs an fortune. but most of us will not get through doors without it for the most part...yes, and "susan's " always come along, but... she is rare in the world... seldom do they last without an  make-over" of some kind. We tend to be in life what is allowed us in life. But it speeds things along to have some self-assertiveness also. The  book called "The Celestine Prophecy"  showed how we are manipulatied by others to become what we are.

Yes, you're right, Shirley.  I think it all boils down to a lack of regard for the dignity of each individual human being.  People are not only manipulated, they're used - for other people's pleasure, profit, what have you.  I read a report that Susan was on Larry King today, and that one of the Britain's Got Talent judges, Piers, aploogized because they were ready to skewer her.  And in the video, the female judge Amanda referred to the whole thing as a wake up call.  I think that's why I hate reality TV - why do we find it entertaining to watch people humiliate themselves? And how could you look into a mirror if you made your living by being a snot to some poor soul, like they often are in those shows?  The world is Susan's oyster now, because she proved them wrong about being talentless just because she doesn't have the looks.  But she (and everyone) deserve to be treated with dignity just because they are, regardless of looks or talent.  Our values as a society will "say" that this is what we hold, but that's far from true.  And yes, it might be human nature, but maybe we need to try and rise above it and start walking the talk.

Susan has a true God-given gift, and I hope she doesn't allow anybody to manipulate her.  And a lot will try because they smell a fast buck or quid.

As for you, Shirley, you are a gem.  Don't ever put yourself down.  I think a lot of aging gracefully means you've accepted yourself in your own skin, no matter how wrinkly.  Wink

My friend Martie tells her eye rolling granddaughter - "As you are, I once was and as I am, you will one day be."  lol  I love it!!

I want to believe that the judges knew about her already (especially Cowell) and just wanted to 'add' to the show Undecided.

I also loved the way she was walking off the stage LOL.  Go Susan !! :)

It's funny Mari, I thought the same as you, it almost looked 'stage managed' the way the camera shots were filmed, etc. Just my opinion but it just looked too scripted. It in no way detracts from the lovely voice of Susan though!
