I suppose that under this hard core shell at times, I would like to have people understand that I do care about them, I'm often the kind of person that challeneges others in hopes to get them up an on their feet again..or to "think" things over..or to be "independent" for themselves..it is at times my "way" to try to help them to find happiness through themselves some days...from whcih the only true lasting happiness can be had. My hats off though recently to some gal by the name of "Carol" .. whom has carried on magnificiently something we started in "spriit-web". some 20 years ago and had running...it was to give someone in dire need what you can afford with no strings attached, only that the receipent has to pass it along when she/he can afford it likewise. It is something done out amoung the public, without being asked by one's own free choice. In my case, I "wired" 20 bucks directly to an kid living from home, was without an job, and had 2 top Raman pgks. of noodles left to eat for the week..I also sent later on an box of food. He was not expecting it..and he didn't beg for the help either, but tears came to his eyes on getting it. I wasn' t the only one, and between us all it gave him the money to call home at the end of the month when he still couldn't find employment. I got my $20 unexpectedly when I was in the hosptial having an Gall Bladder operation, it came as an surpise also, and I never asked for it either, but the thing that someone "cared" that didnt' have to. Well, Carol did one better, an co-worker that knew this gal had been laid off work and couldn't draw money for help,,walked up and gave her $500. This gal didn't even have food in the house and had no thoughts of how she'd be able to manage it, with several thousands of dollars in bills needing paid. She was told the same thing, ...no strings attached... and return it to someone else likewise when you can afford it. Her benefactor was on "coast" the other night telling how she wished it could be an "new" movement in the world these days. Little does she realize we were doing it years ago. I am reading this morning how most of eastern Oregon is without jobs, and 1 of every 4 people in Oregon are on food stamps..how this young man just got laid off and they gave him $69 an month of feed his family of three people..he says his only salvation is the school lunch program for his child...(many times it includes breakfast). It's been here recently that's about what an tank of gas would cost for most automobiles. Eastern Oregon is an rural place and far miles in between towns at times. It's really going to take people helping people this time around. My hats off in honorable mention of "Carol" this day. It's always nice to get help, but nothing like it is when your facing children without food. |
