I have ridden a bike, but I don't have a licience for the road. I'm not intending to get one at the moment, (if ever!) I'm too scared of the roads in all honesty!

Well i  would not hurt another human either but I think it would be my first reflex to swerve to miss the animal not trying to hit the human instead of course.

It's human nature to swerve when anything living gets in front of your vehicle, but you really must try and train yourself to ignore the little critters.

Of course, I've closed my eyes before and run over a squirrel, and I'm thinking that closing the eyes is not good either.

LOL @ Ruth yes that would be a little scary to close your eyes,,LOL We have been told here we have a problem with deer's in the road during hunting season so they say it is better to hit the deer head on instead of swerving of road and maybe killing yourself, So far I myself have not had to deal with that but have had friends totally mess there cars up and deers coming into the front seat with them,,YUKES!!

I've had it both ways..on an very busy street in Portland.. at rush hour, this dog ran out in front of me and I hit his back leg also, and I was preparing to stop and this guy behind yells "keep going.. or you'll end up dead yourself in an car pile-up"... since the dog took off to parts unknown, I couldn't even see where to follow him off the road either....and I swerved one time to keep from hitting an dog on the freeway..mind you it's owner let it out of the car on the driver's side. I was going 70 MPH and it was all I could do to bring myself  to not lose control, not hit the guardrail...the guy behind me pulled over and he might of hit him, it's against the law in this state to leave an injured animal, without reporting it and helping to find it some aide. We had the expereince also, going up to Mt. Hood, it was either hit an deer bouncing out in front of us or hit the car beside us, we hit the deer, and it left an really sickening feeling in my stomach doing it also. Everyone stopped, the deer laying by the side of the road, we went up to the ranger station to tell them, by the time we got back it was gone, I understood from others we had merely "knocked it out" and it regained consciousness, got up and pranced away. It's never easy to kill anything, even animals. Yes, my dogs are as loving as this one is for it's mother dog. Their lives are one's of self-sacrific to humans most the time. It takes an good person to treat them decently.

Oh i'd hit the human any day rarther than the animal in the road (apart from a child)Surprised  I do brake for animals, its us that wants to go fast everywhere in cars, we should be aware of our surroundings and animals that have just as much right to be there! controversial i know, but i can't help it!
