Cathy, I think more people than will willingly admit it have felt driven to at least seriously consider suicide as an option at least once in their lives. It is sad when any one feels that way. I have long since put the feelings of shame for my own indiscretion behind me. The most important part is that I was able to recognize I needed help and sought it out. There is no shame in that.

There was a poignant episode of "Touched by an Angel" several years ago where Andrew (the angel of death) tried desperately to convince a man not to commit suicide. He walked away when he realized he had said all that he could and now it was up to the man to make the choice...the man committed suicide. The remainder of the show was about the after affects on the family and even on Andrew himself. The ending of the show was honest and poignant...there were no answers, the family never understood why, and neither did Andrew. The only one who knew the answers were the man who took his own life and God.

The moral of the story (IMHO) was two fold. One, suicide is never just about the one who is in pain, it's about all the ones who are left behind to wonder why. But also, that there is a God who knows the secret reasons of the heart and those who do chose to end their lives are in the bosom of the greatest councilor of all time. Finally, they will be healed.

I take comfort in that Diana. I know my brother is being taken care of. I believe he was able to sort out the matters of his heart. I just wish he could have seen how great he is, how talented he is and that I needed him. But it's ok now. He is where he needs to be.
