I leave you with a beautiful verse from William Wordsworth (1770-1850) Nightingale! Thou surely Art. I heard a Stock-dove sing or sayHis homely tale this very day;His voice was buried among trees,Yet to be come – at by the breeze; He did not cease; but cooed –and cooed; And somewhat pensively he wooed; He sang of love, with quiet blending,Slow to begin, and never ending;Of serious faith, and inward glee; That was the song – the song for me. |

They came home looking tired to I might add, split about half of it and got it put away for winter, got the rest to do. They have to take what they get, this was an Hemlock/ Fir mix. Well, winter is coming, and autumn is offically here for us. I was trying to think when was the last time we didn't go get wood in the fall. At most out of the last 32 years it's maybe been one or two times...and then I bought it. Now the race is on, to get it before the winter rains come in and you can't get into the higher elevations..as rain up there is usually snow. We have an Boy Scout outtting coming up on the side of Mt. Hood the third weekend of October(Elk Meadows)...hope it holds off until then. I think we have an max of five cords we are allowed to get. We still have to pay $10, but an far cry from the price of an $100 an cord plus most people charge for it. You learn to do this living in an all-electric house every year, where if there's an bad storm, you might not have heat...we have an wood stove downstairs and an fireplace upstairs. Long day today. I must go up to Hood River also, for winter apples and some pears. I can not beleive the price of the "new crop" apples right now...$1.99 lb...or apple....take your pick...rediculous!!! |
