I dont know if that is true or not,but Big Ben is in fact the bell. It has a crack in it that gives it the distinctive sound.

I think the most likely name origins of the Great Clock as Big Ben comes from  Sir Benjamin Hall, First Commisioner for Works, whose name is inscribed on the bell.

If Spotted Dick---which i think has little to do with the name Richard---needs renaming, then a few more dishes should be renamed too------

Cock a leekie soup; tarts, cream puffs, black pudding, and beef jerky would appear now to need a quick revision.
