Is it right to give babies/children alcohol or other drugs to make them sleep at night?

Just listening to a debate regarding the title thread. Amazing to hear just how many parents DO give their kids drugs to get them to sleep and not necessarily alcohol. One mother apparently crushed antidepressants and administered them with a bottle of milk! This is outrageous and tantamount to murder surely?

I agree with Krissy. From what I have observed the "instant gratification" syndrome that plagues our world today is carried over into our relationships. Many people have less tolerance for parenting and it shows by the various ways they devise to keep their children quiet, and out of their way. From using the T.V. as a babysitter to giving the kids drugs and alcohol to put them to sleep at night.

I don't know if it's a general lack of caring or if people just don't know "how" to be parents. Perhaps a little of both?

And imagine me having my children run about and playing in the back yard in the fresh air and sunshine to tire them out.  What was I thinking? What some parents will do to get their children to sleep at night!  Wink

I did this as well, Diana - every night.  My children loved it.

I have heard of alot of ppl doing this I think one doctor and his wife not in our state did give there child something to help her slepp and they were going out and overdosed her and she died,,pretty sick!!

Same thing about ppl always assuming there kid needs Ritilan.... Makes me kinda mad sometimes,,I do not see anything wrong if the kid needs it but most ppl thats the first thing they want to do if there kid is having problems give them a drug to help..
