Well my dog said she was but my cat disagreed. He had a pie chart to prove it.

Hard question..as so far every species I've raised was intelligient in their own way...I'll say the cat though, it's smart enough  to know not to over-eat, the dog will munch down about anything...and does. All of them are protective of me. Same for the kids, I probably have the only cat around likes to follow the kids to the bus stop in the mornings...comes back after they board the bus for school. It seems to be his duty some days to make sure they are "OK".

Shirley, what a wonderful cat! I think they are equally intelligent!! I believe it is all in how much time and love you give the animal that helps them to learn. My cat Rascal will not settle down at night until he tucks me into bed. He has to make sure I am comfortable and the lights are out before he leaves my side. Although it is Katie's job to wake me in the morning by pawing at my face until I take my CPAP mask off then she licks my eyelids to tell me she loves me and it is time to get up. And Cuddles thinks he is the food provider by hunting down a small animal made of real sheep's wool. He brings it to me while meowing trying to tell me "Look what I have for you!". Rascal also listens when I tell him NO. He usually stops what he is doing immediately and pays attention to me. I have seen cats trained to do tricks. So now that I have talked your ear off, again I think they are equally intelligent!! Smile

I love all animals but there is no question that cats are superior to dogs in intelligence, and this proves it:

Some thing I have observed about my own animals....

1. the bird (sub-speceis of an parrot) puts up with about anythng but my medication bottles, from the first time I took them out to take my first pill, he flew out an down and "ravengingly" tried to destroy them..we got the parrot from another so I have no idea if they misused pills or subjected him to them, or what...he just not tolerate them....but this morning, as we went outside, he blew an quick pert "smoochy kiss" to the dog. You know he is so small for hsi size and he commands strict respect be everyone in the house  when he gets out of his cage. they don't "cross" him. He's ki dof an smart little thing, we were having an ddueling of sounds one day, then he let's out withthis cute litte warble, thathe knew I coudn't repeat..smart aleck! He likes to play "father" to the parakeets. He is the same species some univeristy had in an bird, whom they taught to talk also, and then recorded hisi "Life" in English on how an bird thinks/feels.

2. Dogs, the black lab is now an "cancer" survivor as of last year, and she's the "mother" dog..nothing gets by her...her favirote pastime is bouncing balloons off her nose..playing with the kids, and any water sports, sitting by my side nightly of her own admission if I'm not feeling well, and making the other animals behave...she also "mumbles" to us..late at night if she's hungry for something to eat, Its an weird kind of an warbled like noise..kind of like "Will ya get me some munchies?"  Bailey, our chocolate "Lab" is the throughbred, I think she has an heart deformity from birth. she's kind of slow and luggish, and of her own doings for the most part, she likes my male cat, whom loving has been know to tenderly take his paw to her face and give her an kiss once in awhile...but he was an little dude when she was 20 times bigger...and watched over him and played with him back then also. so they have this kind of "tender play" between them at times.

3. Cats, "mouse" was orphaned as an child...an forrest ranger caught her and gave her to my kids, as her mother was dumped at an state park, and had her kitty's.her mother raised her on wee tiny little crabs...and we had quite an time breaking her on to cat food, as she took to spiders when we got her home.

There has beedn more then one occasion I've said..."spit it out!" with an dday long-legs spider wiggling half out of her mouth, bu tshe had eventually out grown this, she an bit an "bitch"...what "mouse" wants.."mouse" gets. Terribly independent, she's an granny cat these day sat 13 years old, thin as an rail, and I make her stay around more these days...and my male cat watches over her. My male cat, wee an wild growing up, he likes the ladies. He grew up sleeping near me and still does. Nosey, like the local action in the household going on. He was micro-chipped in order for me to have him, by the local animal pound. I I let others know it also, just in case they ever think of helping themselves to himI understand he's quite the killer this summer, getting his milatary manuvers down to pat with the other animals in the area. He's been doing in mice, and birds, but never seems to eat them. Watch out if he flexes his nails your way.

As you can seee each of our animals have thier own personaity..I don't know if we cultivate that around here with all the kids or not, it just "is" I guess.
