We helped his first boss put up a greenhouse (s) one year...we had to go up an water the plants daily (weekends) until they got the automatic sprayers system in it. His old boss use to ship out about 48 railroad cars of bare root trees every year back east. Then he went into tissue culture...and bought in to the only "lab" here in Oregon...then his nursery took the baby plants made off the tissue culture and got them into size to be "weatherized" for outside growing, and then sent them to other suppliers...thus they could do about one million plants several times an year..and they went to trucks to haul them, being smaller sized. His boss has since retired, but he was going more into building huge expensive houses to sell as his retirement days came up. Hubby's new boss "John" isn't into all this, but has an much bigger land operation going on. He owns huge plots of ground all around us, nearly everything that hasn't been built upon..I hope he stays in business for an long long time, as it's about the only part of being "country" left. I was thinking about that last night, as we have an grove of old tall stately trees near us, they put houses on half other ground, these huge trees are the home to an eagle, whom I saw out flying about 2 days ago..so majestic. Its generations have been here for years..before all the housing. It will lose its home if they cut those trees down. These people come out to the country for fresh air and open ground and are faced living in housing projects with side yards of 3 feet and back yards barely big enough for an patio with an strip of grass around them, they might of as well stayed in the city...they would of had more room. Where we live was the last of the 10,000 square foot lot miniums...I can't say I have an big yard at all. The new houses can be built in half that with the new regulations. So sad. I guess you know they are paying double the prices for these houses also. I find it right down pathetic to tell you the truth...this is my "thing" these days, preserving ground so we have some in the future. Since we have come out here, they have put in two schools and over 1,000 houses...every where you look now. I grew up in the area. |
