Which one is your favourite? My personal favourite is still, and probably always will be, Scrooge (1951; U.S. title: A Christmas Carol) starring Alistair Sim (Scrooge), Mervyn Johns (Bob Cratchit), Michael Hordern (Jacob Marley), Hermione Baddeley (Mrs. Cratchit) and a very young Patrick Macnee (Young Jacob Marley). To me, it remains the most stark, atmospheric and gloomy version--much like London must have been in the early 19th century. Sim is absolutely brilliant as Scrooge! |

Though I admit the one they are about ready to come out with don't look to bad either. Other favorites are entertainment shows I've tapes over the years, Nashville, Barbara Mandrell, Donnie and Marie Osmond, Peter, Paul amd Merry Christmas Concert, Tim Allens first "Santa Claus" "Eloise",and there are an host more of them also. I use to pull me up an chair and sit there singing along and making ribbon "doves" for Christmas oranaments. I always thought "Madonna" would be the perfect person to do an Chirstmas show on the "Madonna's of the world (statues/pictures) and English estates and how people celebrate the Season. |

It's become a tradition to watch it after all of the dishes have been washed and put away from Thanksgiving dinner. |

If I could only have one, well, I'm a sucker for Patrick Stewart reading anything! The telephone directory, directions on a medicine bottle, whatever! Can't wait to see how Jim Carey interprets Scrooge, in 3D no less! |

Scott version, too, though I found David Warner and Susannah York unconvincing as the Cratchits. And the Muppets paired with Michael Caine was a riot--Gonzo as Charles Dickens was inspired!. |
