I caught the tail end of a television story where a National newspaper has apparently suggested that Council workers could be allowed into your home to take your cash, yes TAKE your cash, having sifted through your personal belongings!!

It seems that some who don't pay a fine for example, could be subjected to this kind of abuse, but guess who wants to do this? It seems Home Secretary Alan Johnson could be responsible for this one, and if correct then surely another Labour abuse of its power?

I say that if there is to be any 'searching' of our personal belongings then it should be done by those who defend us daily, the Police Authority!!

Anybody else seen or heard about this, if so please do comment. In the meantime I am going to find out more.

Ron, I haven't heard or read anything about it locally here in South Tyneside(NE England) as of yet but I do know how to find out!!  I can see where those who live in Council houses may have a council employee come around to collect the monies owed etc but for a program such as this one insinuates, I think there will be Heck On! As it stands right now, councils have far more info on each of us than they need. Sounds more & more like 'police state' than it needs to be.This is just my view.

I will look into this in more detail and get back with the info within 2-3 days.

Hmmm...you got me going on this one! LOL

It was referred to on Sky News early this morning (with Eamonn Holmes) but I missed the start. In a National newspaper but I haven't had time to find it yet.

I don't have a problem with the 'Authorities' ie Police but object profusely to a b....y council worker forcing their way in!

I have  felt a sense of unrest within the communities regarding things such as this, and I think many Brits are tolerant of changes provided they are upfront, knowing of the changes, everything out in the open kind of situations, but some of these things are just going wayyyyy over the top and the good, average citizens are just putting their head on straight, putting their feet firmly on the ground and opening their mouth saying...enough already. Will they be heard ?

This story is a few days old now that , with the extended powers in the Proceeds of Crime legislation, police powers have been extended to council staff to enter your home to seize cash or goods for things unpaid to them.

And if not enough, the 2011 Census looks interesting wanting to know about your sleeping arrangements on census night and who is in your bedroom that night, plus  other bedrooms of course. No doubt this will remain confidential information for a hundred years or until a government staff member looses it on a train, which ever comes first.
