She was seen by lots of soldiers and airmen during the war. The castle was used as a garison. My father saw her one night while stationed in the castle. I attended a wedding reception there a couple of years ago. We left at about 1.30 am. Didnt see a thing. Maybe she had gone to bed by then. Lol |

But of all the ancient buildings I'd visited over there, I would stop from time to time and wonder, "how many people died in this very spot over the centuries?" Anybody ever spend the night in Westminster Abbey or St. Paul's. That might be a bit scary too.

I was completely alone as I explored the ruin and I decided to check out the "dungeon" of the castle. At that time, the only light available was a small oil lamp left at the entrance of the dungeon by the caretaker, which hardly produced any light at all. As I stumbled around in the half-dark, I suddenly had an overwhelming feeling of such intense evil that I rushed out as quickly as I could without daring to look behind me. I felt like I was being pursued by something horrible and unseen. The thought of it still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! I'm a pretty down-to-earth person, but this encounter really shook me up. To this day, I can't explain what I experienced--I only know that something very evil lurks under Huntly Castle. I don't plan to visit there again, at least not alone, though I understand that the lower areas are now electrically lit. |
